Psalm 32; Isaiah 30:15; Acts 11:18; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Philippians 3:9 Repentance is to be enjoyed as a gracious gift from God. Because the remedy for sin is Christ, we run to Christ with our sin rather than avoid Christ by running from our sin. Our “anxious fears” and “offensive ways” break intimacy with God and others. Because the heart is deceitfully wicked, we are blind to this organic sin network driving our behaviors and desires. Seeing our sin initially feels painful. However, we discover deep joy as the barriers to intimacy with God are removed and the joy of our salvation restored. A Christian repents not only of his bad deeds, but also the reasons for doing good works. 1. Worldly grief a. False repentance b. Produces death 2. Godly grief a. A repentance b.
